Ryan's First Owie

Ryan got his first "owie" last night before bed. He was running towards Matt from one room to another and slipped. He hit his head on the door frame. He cried for all of 30 seconds and then was completely over it. But not mommy. Mommy was far from over it. His head began to swell quickly, turn purple and was like no little boo-boo he had before. I called my sister Sherri, my best friend Sandi (a pediatric nurse) , my mom and my sister-in-law. Matt even called the pediatrician nurse help-line. First time mommy + first time big bump = big time worry for me.

No signs of dizziness, no vomiting, no moans and groans through-out the night. Aside from probably getting annoyed at me for waking him every 4 hours, he was in tip top shape just with an extra bump on his cute little noggin.

"Is this thing edible?"

"Don't worry mama, unfortunately it won't be my only fall. But hey, look how I can balance this ice pack on my head."

Buck up, momma! Looks like he popped himself a blood vessel--like what happens to your knuckles sometimes and it doesn't really hurt, but it looks terrible and takes a day or two to disappear.

Did I ever tell you about the time I watched Daniel (when he was two) and he took a flying leap face-first into the bathtub faucet during his bath? He bounced up and kept laughing and playing like nothing had happened, but I had to sit down with my hand over my face for a full 10 minutes trying to remember to breathe . . . and watch for signs of concussion, bruising, internal bleeding, broken bones, confusion, blindness, etc, etc.

Dang kids. :)
