I am starting to wonder if this past Girl Scout camping weekend was called "Survivor" for the scouts or the adults who attended. Maybe my age is showing. All kidding aside, I was happy to chaperone this weekends camping trip with another mom, Candace, and a total of 6 girls from Kaitlyn's troop. I treasure anytime I get to spend alone with the twins as individuals. This camping trip was at Camp Timber Ridge in Mableton which is just outside Atlanta. As part of their requirements, this time around the girls had to spend the weekend in platform tents. Kaitlyn and I had done this before with our troop back in NY. The major difference was here we were able to sleep in cots, despite not being the most comfortable, at least it wasn't on the ground. The bugs though, those I could definitely do without. As they got bigger so did the screams of the girls I shared the tent with. I don't think there was enough bug spray (and trust me, I used it) to keep them away. In the end, the girls had a great experience. Some activities included working on outdoor cooking/fire skills and knife skills, canoeing, a scavenger hunt, water purification and, the favorite of all, the big swing. Kaitlyn didn't enjoy the canoeing but gained confidence on the big swing. I am still in awe of the wide variety of things my child likes and doesn't like.
