One year ago....

One year ago was one of the scariest yet "grateful" days of my life. On March 7, 2007 I had a routine 24 week ob/gyn appointment and sonogram. During my exam, it was discovered that my cervix was extremely thin, almost completely effaced, and I was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix. Cervical incompetence is basically a cervix that is too weak to stay closed during a pregnancy. Therefore resulting in a preterm birth and possibly the loss of the babies, because of the shortened gestational length. Because my cervix was so thin, we were terrified of losing what we had "worked" so hard for. On March 8 I was admitted to the hospital to have a cerclage placed. A cerclage is used to prevent these early changes in a woman’s cervix, thus preventing premature labor. Basically, the cervix is sewn closed. After my cerclage, I began the hardest months of my life. BEDREST! I was on bedrest for almost 3 1/2 months. Thank G-D for my amazing husband, family and friends who got me through that time. At 38 weeks and 1 day, the morning after my stitch was removed, my water broke and the rest is history. So when I said it was also the most "grateful" time of my life I was referring to medical part of it. It is because of the amazing medical technology and advances we have in our country we have the 2 most amazing children.
One year ago, it seemed like tomorrow would never come....now its coming too fast.
