Tuttle Avenue

Next Wednesday, March 2014, you will be the first class of first graders to start at the new Tuttle Avenue Elementary School. Your current school, Eastport Elementary, will become a third to sixth grade school. Tonight we went to the ribbon cutting ceremony at Tuttle and were able to visit the new building.

The estimated $26 million school, which officials said will likely be the first in the state to achieve the gold rating for its sustainable and environmentally friendly features.  The new two-story school features approximately 20 classrooms, a circular library media center, and separate wings for each of the three grade levels.  It is equipped with electronic sensors that control the brightness of lights in balance with natural light. The 60,000 square foot school is also outfitted with solar panels.
