Our Summer Stay-Cation

Our summer vacation this year was a "stay-cation" because we have a big trip coming up in September...

Friday July 15
In order to avoid "Goin' Quackers" we kept very busy starting with a great library program all about ducks. You enjoyed being able to interact with live ducks and making a fun duck project.

We enjoyed the rest of the afternoon poolside at La Casa Rubin (AKA Aunt Tammi & Uncle Michael's)

Saturday July 16
We spent the morning peach picking at a local peach farm. As usual, we picked too many peaches. You both took great pride in being able to pick your own peaches and ate them on the spot.

Later in the evening we went to the Terryville Fire Department Carnival. You can not get enough of the rides!

Sunday July 17
On this day, 3 years ago, Poppy Richie passed away. It was only fitting to spend the day together as we have done the previous years. The entire family gathered at Uncle Michael's and Aunt Tammi's house. It was a peaceful day. The kind of day Poppy loved.

Monday July 18
One of our local libraries has an outdoor learning space called the Nature Explorium. It is the first of its kind in the nation. The Nature Explorium contains a variety of areas, all geared toward connecting children to a different aspect of nature. We met several member and friends from our twins club there.

Tuesday July 19
To Meat or Not to Meat
Wednesday July 20
The next two days were the highlight of our "stay-cation". We made plans to go away for two days to Connecticut. Our trip started with your first ferry ride.

Our first stop was at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, Connecticut. We explored all the different rooms and exhibits. Amongst the different things we were able to see were a dinosaur exhibit, harbor seals, frogs, river otters, stingrays, touch tanks (starfish, crabs), jellyfish, sea turtles and an open ocean exhibit with sharks and a variety of fish. Ryan, you loved the stingray touch tank. Katie, you really enjoyed the sea turtles. You both left the gift shop with toys representing your favorite part of the aquarium.

Thursday July 21
In the midst of a heat wave, this was a great day to go to Lake Compounce in Bristol, Connecticut. The water park area was awesome and if we wanted to you could swim in the lake which was a part of the water area. There were three different parts of the water park-a kiddie section, a wave pool with a pirate ship and then a larger water play area with tunnels and slides. As expected, Ryan loved the water! You had so much fun on all the slides and we could barely get you to leave. Kaitlyn, you were apprehensive at first but once you got into the swing of things you were loving it. You really enjoyed sitting in the wave pool.

Suprisingly, the ride area was not too crowded and you were able to go on all the rides several times over.

Mommy was even able to get one roller coaster ride in!

Friday July 22
106 degrees! Enough said! It was way too hot for any outdoor activites so we played indoors bouncing around at Safari Adventure.

Saturday July 24
On our last day of vacation we went to the beach with Aunt Sherri, Tyler and Rachel. We got all set up and when we headed to go into the water this is what we saw...

According to the lifeguards, there was a lot of jellyfish in the water and they were producing this foam. Needless to say, we didn't stay long. We opted for the clear, fresh water of Aunt Sherri's pool. Great end to a great vacation!
